EDWARD MANIKEL
Edward Manikel peacefully left this world to join his Father in heaven on Sunday, February 19, 2012 at his home in Morris, Manitoba. As a dedicated and loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, Ed will be truly missed and remembered by the many lives he touched during his 96 years of life.
Ed is predeceased by his parents, siblings and infant son, Christopher Albert. He will be cherished by his devoted wife of 65 years, Genevieve; his three sons Randy (Anne), Barrie (Joy), and Dale (Lynne); and his daughter Tannis. He will be forever remembered by his grandchildren Jason (Noriko), Kristi (Adam), Kelly, Mark (Joni), Leigh (Denise), Stacey (Chad), and Britney (Kevin).
Ed was born in the small town of Hannah, North Dakota; however after the passing of his father in 1920, his family moved to Sewell, Manitoba where his mother married Mr. Kris Ganske. After marrying the love of his life in 1946, Ed and Genevieve started their life together on a beautiful farm just south of St. Jean Baptiste.
Ed was very involved in his community and an active member of the Morris United Church. He enjoyed working with others and getting involved in a variety of community events. He was Scout leader for over fourteen years and also a founding member of the Wild Gobblers Unlimited and a Red Hat member of the Manitoba Stampede.
A huge part of Ed’s life was his family. He was a committed father and always made his family a top priority. Ed and his children shared a passion for agriculture and spent many years farming together.
In 1997, Ed and Genevieve left the farm life and moved into a condo in Morris. He embraced town life and enjoyed socializing with neighbours, meeting friends for coffee at the local coffee shop and having family nearby.
Ed was blessed with good health and a sound mind and therefore lived a very full life. He enjoyed travelling and had the opportunity to see several parts of the world, including the many winters they spent in Panama City, Florida. He loved spending time with his children, nieces and nephews, grandchildren, all of whom have wonderful memories of camping, golfing, playing crib and exploring with their Grandpa Manikel.
His smile, sense of humour and gigantic heart will be truly missed.
A memorial service will take place at the Morris United Church in Morris on Saturday February 25, 2012 at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Morris United Church, Box 90, Morris, MB R0G 1K0.
